1.1 Water conditions Different growth periods of lettuce have different water requirements. The seedling stage should not be too dry or too wet. Too dry seedlings are easy to age, and too wet seedlings are easy to grow leggy. In the growing stage, the water should be properly controlled, and the water should be sufficient in the bulbing stage. The leaves are small and bitter in the absence of water. Do not have too much water in the late stage of heading, so as to avoid cracking and cause disease
1.2 Lettuce likes a cool climate, and the minimum temperature for seed germination is 4°C, which takes a long time. The optimum temperature for germination is 15-20°C, 3-4 days for germination, and germination above 30°C is blocked. Therefore, when sowing in summer, low temperature treatment must be carried out to promote the enzyme activity in the seeds and the transformation of other substances. The optimum temperature for the growth of stems and leaves of head lettuce is 11 to 18°C, and the optimum temperature for the head stage is 17 to 18°C. Seedlings are resistant to -5°C low temperature. It is not easy to form leaf bulbs above 21°C, or the inner temperature of the leaf bulbs is too high, causing necrosis and rot of the heart leaves. When the temperature is above 30 ºC, the growth is poor. Non-heading lettuce has a wider temperature adaptation range than headed lettuce
